SUCCESS! He did it!!!

So Anastasia was reading to Luke on the couch tonight, asking him what sounds different animals make. Of course, anybody who has been around me for the past year+ knows that I have been telling Luke that a duck says "Aflack," not "quack-quack." And tonight, he did it. She asked, "What sound does a duck make?" To which he replied with his pacifier in his mouth, "Ahhyak" which is close enough for me. I raised my hands in victory as if I just won the Super Bowl. Anastasia threw her head back in disgust.
To make matters worse, he also knows what sounds a deer makes. Back in September and October, we saw a few dozen deer on the side of the road, dead as deer on the side of the road (duh). Most of the deer we've seen back here have been dead, with very few exceptions. So I started telling Luke that deer made the same sound of my fist slamming into my palm and me screaming "pow!" Yeah, nice image, huh? So HE DID THAT TOO! He slammed his hands together when Stasia asked him what sound a deer makes. It was priceless. I was so proud. She said, "You were worried about me teaching him poor grammar or spelling, but you teach him this and delight in it?"
Yup. That's me, in a nutshell. I delight in teaching my son the wrong noises for animals. By the way, what the heck kind of sound does a deer make anyway? If anyone knows (and it doesn't involve cars hitting them or guns shooting them), then let me know.

In other news, we had a terrible snow/ice/rain/freezing rain storm today and I stayed home from school. So that was nice to spend the day with Luke, who helped Anastasia make chocolate chip cookies. He now says "cookie" almost perfectly, but doesn't understand why they seem to disappear mysteriously after dinner. He'll be more surprised tomorrow when they show up again.
At least I had plenty of time to read Christine's blog and ESPN's website while wasting time...I mean, while doing homework. To toot my own horn, I did do most of the work on a paper that is due Feb. 23. The paper is 95% done, so I can totally relax on that now. And I actually did spend between 5-6 hours on my homework today, so the day wasn't a complete waste.

Our basketball game against St. Vlad's is next Friday, Feb. 6. I'll be glad when it's over so that I have more time to do hw. 4 hours of practices a week adds up to a lot when you include drive time to and from practice. But, before we abandon our one-game season, we're hoping to set up a game against the prisoners here in town. Yup, State Correctional Institute Waymart vs. St. Tikhon's Seminary. Believe it. I was informed that they don't let the sex offenders play in the game, so that is reassuring (otherwise I would have to wear a snow suit under my uniform--a bit uncomfortable to run in). Hopefully we can get the clearance to do it--it would be a really fun game. Winner gets cigarettes or something. :)

Time to get ready for bed and get ready for school tomorrow. Have a good day, wherever you are.

When you figure out the deer thing, let me know what sound a giraffe says, because Megan's been asking.

And make sure you check out my blog for a cute story involving you guys.

Congratulations on teaching Luke. I am curious to hear about the game with St. Vlad's. I wish that was part of the tradition while I was there!
