Hospital

Today we took a family trip to the hospital. Hannah had labs she's needed done for almost a year now (just a simple lead screening, nothing serious), Luke needed a follow up chest x-ray for his pneumonia, and I needed some labs for this pregnancy. Matthew was the only one not getting pocked and prodded.

The kids did great. I had Hannah and Matthew had Luke. Hannah watched very intently as the nurses took my blood. She wasn't scared at all, but she was very serious. When it was her turn she did great, no screaming, trowing herself around or hitting the nurses. I think the worst part for her was the rubber band around her arm. It was short and sweet and she got a lolly pop afterwords. As soon as the lolly pop was opened her whimpering stopped and it was like nothing ever happened. Last year we did this with Luke and it was a complete nightmare. She is just too good!!

Luke was a champ too. Matthew said he stood on the stool in the x-ray room and didn't move a muscle like the nurse told him too. Then the nurse asked Luke to take a deep breath but he wouldn't and when she tried to get his attention, he would not look at her. He just stood there, tummy and nose pressed up against the x-ray board, not moving. Matthew said it actually looked kind of sad, as if Luke was being punished, because he looked like he was pouting the whole time. When I saw him he had a fist full of stickers and looked just as happy as could be, then Hannah gave him a lolly pop and her was even happier. We couldn't have asked for a better trip to the hospital. Well...I guess a better trip would be leaving with a third kid, but that has to wait a few more weeks.

One funny thing that happened was while Luke and Matthew were registering with the x-ray nurse before going into the x-ray room. Here is the conversation Luke and the Nurse had as Matthew told me.

Nurse: Luke how old are you?
Luke (chin leaning on hands on the counter): holds up 3 fingers
Nurse: Wow, I would have guessed you were older and going into 1st grade. What grade are you going into?
Luke (whispers): preschool
Nurse: Do you have a girlfriend?
Luke:
Matthew: Luke do you have a girlfriend?
Luke: nods
Matthew: Oh really, who is it?
Luke (whispers): Yaya
