Day 3...again

So I'm in round 2 of my tonsillectomy recovery. Normally, day 1 is ok, day 2 is a little worse, and day 3 is one of the worst days as far as pain levels go. Last week, this was true for me, except days 3-5 were all very painful, culminating in a speechless (I literally couldn't speak above a whisper) and painful day 6 on Monday.

Now that I had surgery again on Tuesday, the days start over. So I am on the liquid diet for 10-14 more days. Today is day 3, again, but this time I am doing much better. I slept for 10 hours last night thanks to 3 doses of codeine that let me hibernate. I'm tired from all that sleeping, yet I feel more rested than I have been in a month (I haven't slept well since my knee surgery on April 5). So thank God for His kindness.

Last night Isaiah Lynch and Michael Halliwell, a couple of young strapping teenage lads, came over and mowed our lawn. They got here around 7:30 and mowed until 9:30 when the lawnmower went kaput. They ran out of gas once, then the machine wouldn't run full throttle very much after that. It's a piece of junk, but the lawn was also very tall and thick and wet. And, they were mowing in the dark from about 8:15 on. It was amusing. After the lawnmower died at 9:30, my wife told them not to worry about what was left undone, and to just go home. At least now the kids can play on the lawn without disappearing in front of our eyes!

Peaceful morning so far. Stasia took Emma to the doctor after dropping Luke off at Nonna's house and Hannah off at her Godmother's house (Aunt Hannah). Hopefully some time away from the older kids will help my wife recharge her batteries. She is sick with a NEPA cold: it's a combination of cold, flu, allergies, and other mysterious ailments that most people attribute to living in NEPA. She has a headache over her right eye, her throat is sore and swollen, her body aches, her eyes were burning yesterday, and she was a tad nauseous yesterday (don't know about today). So while I'm on the mend, she's on the decline. I guess that's how it goes sometimes. We are trying to remember that God's grace is sufficient.

The good news is that Jonathan gets here on Saturday night, so he'll be able to help out a bit with the kids so that we can pack the house. The bad news is that due to our recent illnesses, we canceled our trip to Washington DC. Bummer. Oh well. There will be a lot going on next week, including a dinner for the seminary wives and a senior overnight retreat at a Greek monastery (if I want to go--not sure if I can do it). Plus, packing! We are less than three weeks away from driving out of NEPA! Yes!
