Finally, people who play cards

We had an exciting weekend.
Dinner Friday night with some other married couples. There ended up being 8 kids under the age of 5 in the house, with 12 adults trying to talk over the noise while simultaneously ignoring and watching the kids. It was pretty interesting. Good times, good food.

Then Saturday we didn't do a lot except go to Vespers, which is always a nice 3.5 hour round trip event. And on Sunday we went to St. Paul's in Emaus, where I was privileged to help Fr. Ted bless a marriage. The couple had a civil union but wanted it blessed by the church, so we did the crowning service. There were probably 9 of us there including the couple. At the end of the service Fr. Ted said, "Well, we all prepared a short sermon for you. Go ahead, Reader Matthew."
Uhhhhhh, well, uhhh, I was a bit dumbfounded. But I was quick on my feet. "Well, uh, Steve, and uh, Mary, it's good to uh, um, uh, be here. Let me give you some wisdom that I have learned after ALLLLL my years of marriage and experience." It was pretty funny.

Then we went out to breakfast with a family from the church, so that was nice.
And last night we had a seminarian and his wife and 8 month old son over to our house. They were over for almost 3 hours. Good times were had by all. But the good news is that they are willing to learn how to play pinochle! WOOHOO! Or at least we'll teach them how to play Hand-N-Foot. So we finally found people who are willing to play cards.
And then I stayed up and watched all of the late football game. I saw the Bears destroy the Eagles on 4th and goal from the 1 yard line, keeping the Eagles out of the endzone and sealing the win. I'm sure somewhere there is an entire family of Rogers folks who were whooping and hollering after that play. But geez louise, these games end late on the east coast. I miss the west coast with its 4 and 5pm game times. Oh well.

One last thing: We got really heavy rains over the weekend due to Hurricane/Tropical Storm Kyle, which is hitting Nova Scotia and Maine. Driving home from church, I spent much of the time hydroplaning, which was not fun. The roads don't drain very well back here even though there are tons of hills. But thank God we made it safely.

Have a good week.

Yes, there were Rogers' whooping it up in our living room after that play--Dn. John because he was excited, and Megan because Daddy was yelling, and that kind of thing just can't be done alone at our house any more. Ditto for using the bathroom and all showers. Just you wait until Luke is two.

I'm glad Megan is learning appropriate responses to football games. Just wait til her daddy teaches her, "Heeyyy, down in front! You're blocking the game!" Then she'll say it in church.
