"Hopefully you got my text message that I sent earlier tonight. Here's what's happening:
We have a professor from Cal State San Bernardino that was in the reserves (Navy I believe). He got called up last year by the Army (they had to do this big transfer things and it was a mess, but Bill (Chrismated Theodore) is really smart so they needed him for Army intelligence stuff). He was suppose to be home about now, but last week I talked to Ann, his wife, and she said he was extended for two more months. He left at the beginning of January 2009, so he has been away from family for just over a year.
In the midst of all of this, apparently he has been consistently short of breathe. And, sometime maybe Thursday or Friday (I don't know for certain) the blood clot that was causing him to have breathing trouble (which they didn't actually know he had) caused his heart to stop. According to Father Patrick, they spent some 45 minutes reviving him. We heard via the grapevine from church that it was reported this morning to the congregation that they had put him into a comma. Either way, Father Patrick told me this evening that his vital organs were beginning to shut down. Ann and the two children flew to Germany Saturday morning to be with Bill, so at least they are there with him. In the meantime, Father Patrick said that he has the best care available, but things to do look good as he is certainly declining.
Ironically, we had been worried about him when he was initially deployed because he was in Iraq. And, although extraordinarily intelligent, Bill doesn't really seem the soldiering type, so we were somewhat worried about him as he ventured about in Iraq. I think there was far less worry since he had been moved to Germany a few months ago.
So that is that. A terrible situation all the way around. We shall see what happens: Lord Have Mercy on Bill and the family as well."
I just received this text message a few minutes ago from my sister:
"Please move Bill to the departed list."
Let us keep Bill (Theodore) in our prayers, that the Lord will have mercy on his soul. Let us especially pray for his family, his wife and two kids. May his soul dwell with the blessed.
