Road Trip Day 6

Anastasia will post something about Day 5 (Saturday, June 4--Biggest Ball of Twine and Pipestone National Monument in Minnesota) at a later time. Right now she's sleeping and I just wanted to give a heads up about how our time is going.

Went to Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Sioux Falls, SD this morning, and made some new friends who want to come to AK (shout out to Fr. Sava and Pr. Mary--very nice folks). Then went to the Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls where we did our best to get the kids tired in the heat and humidity. Of course, Luke only remembers the animals who came to the zoo via the taxidermist--apparently the boy has trouble remembering live animals that he saw.

In late afternoon, we drove 5 more hours across SD to Rapid City. After 3 hours, we stopped in Murdo, SD for burgers and ice cream (yum yum) for an hour before continuing our journey. We passed the time zone line, crossing from central time to mountain time. Just as with the change from Eastern time to Central time, there was no sign to let us know! Cmon, that is just a common courtesy to tell people when they gain/lose an hour of their life.

We finally made it at 10pm to Rapid city, where we were greeted with a dirty hotel room. Bed sheets were unchanged, no new soap, empty bag of body lotion in the shower...it was bad. So we changed rooms and the front desk lady reimbursed us for our stay! Free room! Yay!

Mt. Rushmore tomorrow morning, then on to Billings, MT after lunch. So far the trip is going well, thank God.
